Bio
Born in Holguín, Cuba, William Osorio migrated to the United States in pursuit of the creative and intellectual freedom unavailable in his early life. Through a rigorous self-directed education, he developed a research-driven studio practice centered on questions of exile, memory, identity, and cultural displacement.
Working primarily in painting, Osorio approaches the medium as an expanded practice. His large-scale works bring together gestural figuration, vivid chromatic structures, drawing, and layered material processes, moving between traditional oil painting and unconventional materials and supports. Grounded in the histories of painting while informed by literature, philosophy, and cultural history, his work examines the psychological and material consequences of living between cultures and the ways memory, language, and representation shape our understanding of identity and belonging.
Based in Miami, Osorio maintains an active studio practice alongside his work as an educator and mentor..
